World No Tobacco Day
The Department of Dentistry Government Medical College and hospital sector 32 Chandigarh in collaboration with IDA Chandigarh state branch and ICD section VI observed the World No Tobacco Day (31stMay)on 30th May in the Department of Dentistry. The staff of hospital including safai karamcharis, attendants and patients visiting the hospital were made aware about the ill effects of Tobacco use. Awareness talk on harmful effects of Tobacco was given with powerpoint presentation. The talk started with emphasis on the Theme of this year “Protecting children from Tobacco industry interface”. They were educated about creating awareness of ill effects of Tobacco in their children and neighbourhood so that we can give rise to a healthy and Tobacco free society. Also effects of Tobacco on oral health and overall health were dwelt upon Different methods used for Tobacco cessation were also discussed. Some of the patients who had been smokers and had developed oral cancer and had been successfully treated at the hospital also motivated the participants to quit smoking so that they do not develop oral cancer and other complications of Tobacco use
Fellows Dr Gurvanit Kaur Lehl, Dr Manjit Talwar and Dr Sapna Singla from Department of Dentistry participated in the programme.
