Hony. Col. Dr. M.L. Soni (Padmabhushan)
Born on 15th October 1909 in Gujranwala, Sialkot, Pakistan, his father was an engineer by profession, who did civil projects in Kashmir. During those days, Dr ML Soni as a child used to commute to his school by tonga. He graduated from Govt. Medical College, Lahore where he topped his class. After doing medicine, he went to Edinburgh to specialize in dentistry. He had been guided by his uncle Dr MR Soni who had also received the top Gold medal in this University and his son, Dr. Hari Soni also topped with Gold later. Dr ML Soni then became MBBS, LDSRCS (Edin.) with Gold Medal.
Dr ML Soni met Dr Lila Soni in Edinburgh, who was doing medicine and was also a brilliant scholar. They got married and returned to India to start private practice. Dr Soni attended so many dignitaries like India Viceroys, Lord Warell & Lord Mountbatten. Presidents Dr Rajendra Prasad, Dr Radhakrishnan, and others. Pandit JL Nehru, Sardar Patel etc and many ambassadors were among his clientele. He had also received Padma Bhushan Award, in 1963 and was appointed as Hony. Col. in Indian Army by The then President.
Both Dr ML Soni and his wife Dr. (Mrs.) Lila Soni provided free medical and personal help to poor and needy people and also gave generous charity to various Ramakrishna Missions in India. They also provided free Medical aids to people with Hansen’s disease.
About their family, who loved them the most, they could spare plenty of time for them too. They had a passion for sports like Golf and fishing. Both Dr Soni’s have left their professional guidance, memories and love behind. They were outsanding professionals and a caring couple.
